Kathryn Grace Turns 4

I can't believe it has been 4 years since we had our first child.  They say that time goes faster and faster as you age and since having children that has most certainly been the case.

Kathryn is such a fun, sweet little girl.  Currently she says she is going to be a farmer and a teacher when she grows up.  So much of her personality quirks are exactly like me.  Kathryn's imagination is so great.  She comes up with the most fun games to play.  She is exactly like Ben in regard to her humor.  She loves to make people laugh and catches quite a bit of adult humor.

Although she is still shy, she has came out of her shell so much this year.  School has been excellent for her social skills.  I would still consider her temperament as "slow to warm up".  She prefers mamma to go with her to check things out.

Kathryn thrives on routine and wants to keep the same routine regardless of circumstances.  She likes to totally understand whatever you are discussing and will frequently ask you to "talk about it again". Kathryn is really curious.   At night Kathryn and Ben have talks about mean animals, nice animals, something about science, and about a class in school.  She is also really into telling secrets right now.  Kathryn is developing a strong preference for certain clothing...she is not really particular about how it looks but she hates the feel of certain things.  She is very "girly" and one of her favorite things to do is play dress up with her new princess dresses.

She has reached the age where she defiantly has some sass at times.  She has also mastered "the look" which is where she will glare at mamma or daddy when she is upset.

Kathryn still needs a nap, ideally around two hours.  She loves to play school.  She LOVES anything having to do with art or painting.  She prefers to sleep until 7:30 or so but does pretty well when she has to wake up at 6:30 for school.

Following are responses to questions I asked Kathryn:
Kathryn's favorite food is strawberries, her favorite color is purple and blue.  Kathryn's favorite toy is her umbrella.  Her favorite place to go is the park (although she still will not play at recess).  Kathryn's best friends are Olivia and Maddison.  Her favorite snack is goldfish. She would like to go on vacation to Grammy and Gramps house.  Kathryn's favorite song is "Take Me Out To the Ball Game".  She says she is really great at watching Daniel Tiger.  Kathryn loves Grammy and Gramps.  She says that being thankful for her food makes her happy.

For Kathryn's actual birthday, the Detroit Tigers were playing in St. Louis.  We rented a van and went to STL with my parents to watch a ball game.  There was a long rain delay and extra innings.  The Tigers won.  That night we had cupcakes in the hotel and opened presents.  The next day we went swimming and to Grants Farm.  It was a really fun weekend and Kathryn said that next year she wants to go to the zoo and then hotel :).

We had Kathryn's birthday party with family on the Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend.  Clay, Elissa and kids along with both sets of grandparents were here.  We had face painting, water balloons, a pinata and all the girls dressed up like princesses.  A fun time was had by all.

I can't believe there is only one more year before she starts kindergarten.  I am looking forward to watching this precious little girl grow and mature.  I know that God has great plans for her and I am so thankful that I get to be a part of it!
