My baby is 3 years old! I just went back and read my post about him when he turned 2 and in so many ways he is still the same. Jack still feels EVERYTHING so strongly. However, as his expressive language skills have increased the temper tantrums have decreased. Jack's speech is not as good as Kathryn's was at this age but we can understand around 70% of everything he has to say. Jack has taught me so much that I didn't know I needed to be taught. God is working on my patience everyday through Jack and I have learned to pick my battles and let the little things go. If I worried about him getting hurt or getting dirty then it would consume my entire life. He is incredibly active and I am having to be okay with the fact that he does not want to sit and learn his letters or how to write his name. I know that he is smart and those things will come with time. Jack is getting quite opinionated and wants to do everything in very particular ways. For example, this morning Ben picked him out a Curious George shirt and Jack would not wear it "because the monkey will eat me." :) Jack may be the hardest working kid that I know. He is more than willing to help out with anything. Jack says that when he grows up he is going to be a "cow farmer". Jack still needs a nap a day but overall sleeps way less than his sister. He is too worried about missing out on play time! Jack still does not really like TV but will at times request to watch Dinosaur Train....he never actually watches it but does like it on at times. Most of the time, Jack prefers to be hopping (I can't count the number of times I hear "ribbit" in a day), wrestling, or climbing.
For Jack's birthday, we always celebrate with his grandparents, aunt/uncle, and cousins early. So the first weekend of March, everyone gathered at our house to celebrate our little boy turning 3. This year, he was fully aware the day was for him and would try to get extra treats "because it's my birthday." He wanted a giraffe on his cake. The party was fun. It was a little rainy but we were still able to play with silly string outside and hit the pinata. He got tons of fun toys on the day of as well and so those were a hit with all of the kids.
Jack's actual birthday fell on a Sunday so we went to church and then picked up lunch and headed to the zoo. For lunch, Jack requested Steak and Shake so we grabbed that and then spent the afternoon looking at animals, feeding giraffes, and riding the train. After the zoo, we headed to small group and then grabbed a cake for him to have after his dinner of butter mushrooms. It was a day of no nap so it was kind of rough but he did sneak in a quick car nap.

I love watching our kids learn about this crazy world together. They are best friends and we have so much fun making memories together. I can't wait to see what adventures the next year brings!
